Spirit Airlines has ceased operations and all flights have been cancelled, we looked at what to do if you’ve already been affected. We didn’t know how Bank of America would treat the Spirit Airlines card. Bank of America has sent the following email:

We are writing to share an update regarding Spirit Airlines and your Spirit Airlines Mastercard® account.
As you may know, Spirit Airlines ended operations on May 2nd. We understand that this news may raise questions and we want to assure you that we are actively managing this situation and taking steps to support you.
What does this mean for you?
Your Spirit Airlines Mastercard account remains open and active.
You can continue to use your card as you normally would for everyday purchases.
Your account continues to be serviced by us.
There is nothing you need to do now.
What happens next
We will contact you about any updates to your account, including details about a product switch, if applicable.

You’ll notice no mention of the $79 annual fee that card carriers charge. Some readers have been successful in getting this full refund, even the annual fee was charged some time ago. Unfortunately at this time it seems you have to call and then go to a supervisor to get a refund. I still hope that Bank of America will do the right thing by these cardholders and offer them all an annual fee refund, but in the meantime you can always call.
