Barclays refreshes Wyndham personal and business cards – increased fees, increased credits, changed earnings

Except the introduction of the new Earner Premier cardBarclays and Wyndham also refreshed their Earner Card ($0 annual fee), Earner+ Card ($95 annual fee) and Earner Business Card ($149 annual fee).

Annual fee change

• The $0 Earnings Card annual fee remains the same
• Earner+’s annual fee is $75 to $95
• Earner Business annual fee is from $95 to $149

No foreign transaction fees on any card (same as before).

Signup bonus

• Profit card – 75 thousand: Earn 30,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days. Plus, get 45,000 bonus points after spending $500 at Hotels by Wyndham in the first 180 days.
• Profitable card + – 100 thousand: Get 45,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 90 days. Plus, get 55,000 bonus points after spending $500 at Hotels by Wyndham in the first 180 days.
• Winning business card – 100 thousand: Earn 45,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 90 days. Plus, get 55,000 bonus points after spending $500 at Hotels by Wyndham in the first 180 days.

All three cards added a hotel spend component to get the full bonus, but lightened the overall spending volume compared to preliminary offer.

  • Annual bonus of 15,000 points after paying the annual fee (this is an increase from 7,500 points)
  • One free night every year after staying 5 or more nights in a calendar year – get a free night worth up to 15,000 points.
  • New: Points Redeem Feature – Redeem points for a statement credit
  • Emerald Club Executive Status with the National Team
  • New: $50 Meal Delivery Credit each calendar year – get up to $25 in statement credits every 6 months on eligible meal delivery purchases. This seems to be a widely used credit for places like DoorDash, UberEATS, etc.

  • The card wins:
    • 8 times at Wyndham properties (8x profit on Gas removed)
    • 5x on Vacation Club, gas, EV charging, marketing, advertising, office supply store and transportation purchases (changes: remove services from 5x; adds many new categories)
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • Automatic Wyndham Diamond status (same as before)
  • 20% off prices (this is an increase from 10%)
  • 15,000 Point Anniversary Bonus (same as before)
  • The function of returning points was added – Redeem points for a credit on the statement

Our verdict

The top line negative changes are the annual fee increase, the 5x utility and 8x gas removal on the Business card, and the 5x/6x earning gas removal on the Earner and Plus cards.

Positive changes include Plus card anniversary boost bonus and meal delivery credit, business card wholesale club credits and accounting software, added 3x/4x/5x categories on various cards and potentially easier sign-up bonus.

Many people will prefer the business card, but there is a case for paying an extra $246 a year to get the new Premier card – you get a $100 streaming credit, $100 Wyndham hotel credit, 15,000 bonus anniversary points and a few other perks. (For the first year Prime is better as you can do the air credit twice and the hotel credit twice.)
