American Express added one new redemption optionyou can now redeem Membership Rewards points via Apple Pay, see Pay with Points. Unfortunately you only get 0.7¢ per point ($7 per 1000 points) making this useless. One would hope that at some stage they will offer some sort of promotion for using this redemption option, but in the past they haven’t with similar offers except Amazon.
Most people will get better value from transferring points to American Express travel transfer partners.
