Bilt has DESIGNATED how authorized users will work in the ‘Bilt Close Friends’ community.
- Add authorized users starting at age 13*. Teens 13+ will be able to use a Bilt card with full parental controls. You set monthly limits and for each transaction, choose which merchant categories are accessible and see all purchases in real time. It’s a practical way to give them the experience of spending while you stay fully informed.
- Everyone gets their card number. Your authorized users will have dedicated physical card numbers that earn on your shared Bilt Points balance. If one’s card is lost or needs to be replaced, it never affects anyone else’s access.
- Virtual cards for authorized users 18+*. Any authorized user aged 18 or over will be able to instantly generate a virtual card, add it to their digital wallet and shop online securely without sharing physical card details.
- Set per transaction and monthly limits. Choose how much each authorized user can spend on a single purchase and during the month. Give your college student a monthly budget for everyday expenses, or set up a babysitting card so they can cover dinner and a trip without the option of buying a big ticket.
- The way the rewards go. Authorized users earn Bilt Points as they spend. For adults 18 and older, you choose whether those rewards go to you or to them. Teens 13 to 17 earn on your account.
- Choose where each card works*. Choose which merchant categories each card can be used in. Keep your teen’s card working for everyday spots like food, while age-restricted places like liquor stores stay out.
- Make housing payments as an authorized user. Authorized users 18+ can pay rent or other housing expenses through the Bilt app and earn rewards for those payments, just like the primary cardholder. It’s another way to make joint family spending seamless and flexible.
- Build credit soon. Later this year, authorized users 18+ will soon be able to build credit history through their Bilt Card activity. For teens over 13, reporting starts as soon as they turn 18, so they start their credit journey with a fresh start instead of a blank slate.
Usually these types of changes go live to people who participate in Bilt Close Friends first and then become more available afterwards. The credit building and spending limit stuff is definitely helpful for a lot of people.
