There is no early account termination fee mentioned in the fee schedule, although we could have easily missed it.
Our verdict
I live in the service area for this deal (will involve some driving as it has to be opened in branch) but due to the hard pull to open the account I will not be completing this deal. I’d rather use my hard credit withdrawals on credit card applications since the signup bonuses are usually much larger than $150. If I were to open this account, here’s what I would do:
- Open an Advantage checking account (lowest requirements to keep fee free), fund the initial opening amount with a credit card if possible up to the maximum amount. Making sure you use a credit card with the CA limit set to $0. If credit card financing is not available, I would finance with a minimum of $250 (+$50)
- Choose electronic statements to keep the account fee free
- Deduct $250 from my paycheck into the new account to activate the direct deposit request (+$50). There is no information about others methods that would drive demand for direct deposit so i have to do this to make sure.
- Pay 3 bills paying over $25 each (+$50)
- Wait for all bonuses to post and then close the account
