Delta Airlines will increase baggage fees by $10-$50

Delta has announced that starting tomorrow (4/8) it will increase baggage fees:

  • First checked bag: $45 (down from $35)
  • Second checked bag: $55 (down from $45)
  • Third Checked Account: $200 (up from $150)

JetBlue was the first to raise fares, followed by United. As mentioned before generally, when one airline increases baggage fees, the other quickly falls in line and does the same. It just takes American Airlines to raise baggage fees now. All airlines are citing rising fuel costs as the reason for the increase in baggage fees. Increasing baggage fees instead of adding a fuel surcharge has the added benefit of not expecting those fees to drop when the price of fuel goes down and the elites/credit card holders are not affected.
