Citi Strata Elite Credit Blacklane $200
The Citi Strata Elite Card includes up to $200 per calendar year in credits for travel booked with Blacklane, a global chauffeur and airport transfer service. The credit is divided into two parts: up to $100 from January to June and up to $100 from July to December.
Some people may care about white glove service, but even if they don’t, you can use Blacklane as an Uber/Lyft alternative for an airport ride/pickup or similar. Blacklane usually doesn’t work in smaller cities – check for an airport pick-up, drop-off or transfer, or check them out for a trip to a big city.
Prices will usually be much more than Uber, but sometimes it can make sense with the $100 credit. For example, you can find a ride to the airport that costs $50 on Uber versus $125 on Blacklane – you’ll save $25 by choosing the Blacklane option.

$100 Credit Detail Layer
- No activation or registration required. Blacklane statement credit is automatic for Citi Strata Elite cardholders as long as travel is paid for by card.
- Reports indicate that Blacklane fares appear to be on hold when the trip is scheduled, but the fare is not posted until the trip is complete. Keep this in mind for time purchases within the January-June and July-December credit timeframes.
- You don’t need to use the full $100 credit in a single transaction; may use one part on one trip and then one part on another. Practically, it is unusual to find a ride with Blacklane that costs less than $100.
- IS NO it is possible to combine two different $100 Blacklane credits in a single trip as the full trip is charged to one card.
- It is not known yet if Paypal payment works for Blacklane credit or if Citi won’t recognize the fee for Paypal credit. The Blacklane app (only) accepts Paypal, but again it’s unknown if this will trigger credit. If so, then this might unlock the ability for him divide a charge into two Citi Strata Elite cards and get $100 credit on each.
- There is no way to buy a Blacklane gift card.
- Citi statement credit can officially take weeks to post, but anecdotallyposted when your Citi statement closes.
Use of cash
They with Bilt card can use their Bilt Cash to get a Blacklane loan. away as I can tellthe Bilt Cash redemption is returned as a statement credit to your Bilt account and thus there is no way to combine the Bilt credit with the Strata Elite credit. (Again, if Paypal ends up working, there might be a chance to split the fee, see discussion above).
Blacklane Credit Maximization
Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do to maximize this credit. A few things to keep in mind to maximize or find value here:
- All taxes, fees and tips are included at the initial initial price. No tip is expected.
- You can ask for a seat in the car to take with you for one child without extra charge. In contrast, Uber/Lyft charges an additional $10 (and is not available in all areas).
- Some people find more value in the Blacklane when they need to bring a family of 4-5 and are ordering a Blacklane SUV. It will still be more than an Uber SUV, but the price gap could narrow.
- Some people like to schedule their Uber airport pickup in order to avoid surge pricing. This would be a good time to check the Blacklane price and compare. There are also some airports in other countries that do not allow Uber pickups at all.
- Promo code: People on the Internet talk about sometimes getting a Blacklane promo code which can be used on your first trip. As far as I know, there are no current promo codes available for everyone. It seems a lot of people get a $50 promo code from Blacklane sometime after signing up – these could be targeted or given to everyone who signs up and doesn’t use their account ABOUT or week or so. LOOK another tip here. (Note, the promotional code may works only 30 daysso you don’t necessarily want to register in advance.)
- Promo code: I see a $30 promo code mentioned here AND here AND here, let us know if it works and we’ll add any confirmed working promo codes.
- Promo code: In addition to receiving a promotional code 7-10 days after registration, some people get similar offers even months later. Keep an eye on your email.
Aside from the possible $50 promo code mentioned, there aren’t many stacks with Blacklane credit. (The only other idea is the aforementioned split of Paypal into two Strata cards, but we don’t know yet if that works.)
Booking details
Blacklane don’t own their own fleet of cars – they outsource the journeys to local drivers.
- Blacklane can be booked online or on the Blacklane app.
- Blacklane must be planned in advance. (Looks like it might be possible to get a ride an hour after booking.)
- Blacklane usually doesn’t work in small towns. Many/most major cities and airports will be supported.
- When you book with Blacklane, you can choose the Business Class option for three people and two suitcases or choose the Business SUV option for five people and five suitcases or the First Class option for a nicer car for three people and two suitcases.
- Reservations can be canceled up to one hour before the scheduled pick-up time without penalty.
- Standard pickups include 15 minutes of waiting time while airport and train station pickups involve up to an hour of waiting time.
- For airport pickup, drivers follow your flight and automatically adjust the pickup time if you are late.
- There is also an hourly booking option with Blacklane for pick-up and drop-off within the same city. (Book here)
- As part of an airport pick-up, you can have them come with a passenger name tag to find them at the airport.
- You can ask for a seat in the car to take with you for one child without extra charge.
Our verdict
Some readers will find the two $100 annual credits useful in one of two ways:
- The thrifty user will try to see if they can get a free ride somewhere to save themselves $10-$40 Uber. Occasionally one can even find Blacklane similarly priced to Uber for a whopping $100 savings.
- Someone who appreciates the white glove experience can use this for an airport pickup or similar without breaking the bank.
I checked a few times for an airport discount and didn’t find the prices valid, even after factoring in the $100 Citi credit, especially since I prefer not to book in advance. Price disparities will DIFFER from trip to trip, so it’s worth checking your booking and seeing if it’s worth it.
