Unfortunately, it looks like the American Express Old Blue Cash Card is being discontinued and will be forcefully converted to the Blue Cash Everyday® Card. BlahBlahNyborg on the Bogleheads forum received the following notice at the end of their Old Blue Cash statement:
We are discontinuing the use of the Blue Cash card. As a result, your Card will automatically change on March 4, 2027, to the Blue Cash Everyday® Card and we will make changes to your American Express Card Member Agreement (Agreement) as mentioned in this notice. We encourage you to read this notice, share it with your additional cardmembers on your account, and file it for future reference.
You will receive your new Card within 30 days after your account has been changed to the Blue Cash Daily Card. You can continue to use your existing card until your new card arrives.
For those unfamiliar, Old Blue Cash has the following profit structure:
- 5% back on select categories (grocery stores, drugstores and gas stations) up to $50,000, but the first $6,500 is earned at a lower rate.
While Blue Cash Everyday earns:
- 3% back on gas, food and US retailer purchases up to $6,000
of Old Blue Cash stopped accepting new applications on February 6, 2018 and was not publicly visible for some time before. This card brings back many memories, RIP on a real one.
