Chase discontinues checking the Sapphire account

Update 6/15/26: Official landing page indicates that they are not accepting new applicants. Not sure how I missed it to begin with. Hat tip to the reader JP

According to a reader who went into the branch to try to upgrade their existing Chase checking account to Sapphire checking, it appears that this account will be discontinued as Chase is discontinuing that account. The reader wanted him to access ATMs around the world without fees and was informed that they would need Chase’s private client check going forward ($150,000 in assets to hold without fees).

Other benefits of the Chase Sapphire check are as follows:

  • No ATM fees worldwide (including ATM fee refunds for non-Chase ATMs)
  • There are no foreign exchange fees
  • No fees for bank transfers (including domestic and international wires)

ATM refunds are fairly common (eg Fidelity offers it) so it’s not a huge loss.
