Discover Cards transition to Capital One website and app (July 27, 2026)

Update 7/26/27: Many people had their Discover card swiped today at capitalone.com.

Original post 5/15/26:

discover joined Capital One last year, AND recently the bank started transitioning some Capital One cards switch to the Discover network (instead of Mastercard).

Discover sent an email that their cards will transition to Capital One’s site and app on July 27, 2026.

  • No action is required at this time—you’ll eventually need to add your Discover card to your Capital One login or create a new Capital One login.
  • They also added a benefit to the Discover card to get 5% back on trips booked on the Capital One Travel portal and 5% on tickets/events booked through Capital One Entertainment.
  • Some point transfers are mentioned, but there is no concrete information on whether Discover points will become transferable. My guess is that initially there will be no points sharing and they may not have figured out yet if they will allow Discover points to become transferable Capital One points. It’s a process of coming together and it will take time for all of this to become a cohesive ecosystem.

We are writing to inform you of upcoming changes to your Discover it Miles Card account. Beginning July 27, 2026, you will manage your Discover it Miles card using the Capital One app and/or the Capital One website. You’ll continue to earn the same rewards and the same no-annual-fee features you love. In addition to the cash back rewards you love, you can earn even more rewards with access to Deals, Travel and Entertainment once your account is switched to Capital One. There is nothing to do now. Continue to use your card as you do. We’ll be in touch when it’s time to service your Capital One account.

How do I earn my rewards for purchases made at Capital One Travel? You’ll earn 5% cash back on purchases (hotels, vacation rentals and car rentals only) made at Capital One Travel. Earnings will only be applied to net purchases (purchases minus any credits or returns). Purchases made outside of Capital One Travel, such as hotel cases, upgrades or other expenses, will not earn 5% cash back, but will receive the standard earning rate on purchases.

Is my account eligible to transfer rewards? Your account may be eligible to transfer rewards. Please note that transfers are only allowed between certain Capital One Rewards accounts. Not all rewards products are eligible for transfer.

Apparently, long-term, the plan is to have all Discover products under Capital One’s website and app, and to have some or all Capital One cards work on the Discover payment network (rather than Visa/MC).
