Our verdict
They have significantly changed most of the credit card from what it was first announced a few months ago.
Some impressions:
- I can see this card for someone who pays for some of the memberships anyway. For example, someone who pays for Function and Robinhood Gold anyway can save $425 by keeping the card, which offsets most of the annual fee.
- The Eight Sleep temporary deal may (?) be of value to someone planning to purchase an Eight Sleep system.
- Beyond free memberships:
- The $300 flight credit seems useful, but again the credit is only for flights (unlike the Sapphire Reserve which offers the widest category of travel)
- Some will find value in the hotel credit, but it’s not worth nearly $700.
- DoorDash, Dining, TSA and Waymo credits are the kind of fringe benefits that can be useful, but do little to justify the annual fee.
- The 5% rate on Dining is interesting – it’s the best dining card for cash back. Even counting points cards, the 5% rivals the 4x on the AmEx Gold and the 3x on the Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve.
In the end, without any sign-up bonus, this isn’t an easy card to justify signing up for or to justify the annual fee. But it might make sense for the right person who wants a cash back dining card or uses part of the health membership and is able to use some of the flight credits and some of the other credits.
