• Chase is offering a bonus for them You invest the investment product. This product offers free trade to some customers in addition to other benefits. The actual signup bonus is tiered and varies based on how much you fund the account with:
  • Fund $5,000-$24,999 and get a $50 bonus
  • Fund $25,000-$99,999 and get a $150 bonus
  • Fund $100,000-$249,999 and get a $325 bonus (old link is better for this level)
  • Fund $250.00+ and get a $700 bonus
  • Fund $500,000+ and get a bonus of 1200 dollars 1000 dollars
  • Fund $2,000,000+ and get a $2,500 bonus

Our verdict

Previously only the lowest level bonus was offered. Keep in mind that you can do this bonus and still make one Bonus for checks and savings ditto but doing this bonus prevents you from doing Chase Private Client or Sapphire control bonus. If you consider this bonus, you have several options:

• You can simply fund the account with $25,000-$250,000 and leave the funds there without investing them for 90 days. For most people this is not worth doing.
• A better option would be to put the funds in a money market fund like VMMXX or VUSXX. These have yielded 2%+ returns and are considered very safe, but they do not have FDIC insurance as one traditional high-yield savings account.
• You can invest funds as usual.
• Reader Ben points out that the Sapphire Banking offer does not allow IRA funds to count toward the funding amount, while this You Invest offer does. So if you don’t have non-IRA funds to roll over and thus can’t get the Sapphire bonus, this You Invest bonus can really be paid for free by simply rolling over IRA funds (I’ve never actually rolled over an IRA, personally, but I assume it’s not difficult). Another reader points out that there are often fees for transferring an IRA, check with your original institution and with Chase to find out if there are fees to transfer in or out.
