Update 6/18/26: Verizon is marketing that you’ll now get 4% back on your Verizon bill when you pay by card. In reality, the extra 3% is only regular Verizon Shine rewards (registration required) which you can get regardless of the card you pay for. A big benefit is coming for Verizon cardholders in that you’ll be able to pay your Verizon credit card bill with Verizon Dollars (instead of having to use it to buy accessories and the like). And so that may be a motivating factor for some people to get the Verizon card, although you won’t necessarily want to use it to pay your monthly Verizon bill.
Update 4/15/22: Some cardholders received an email offer of double cash back offer for one month on up to $1,000 in spending. Good for 8% on gas and groceries or 6% on dining. (ht readers James and MisterBill)
Update 12/9/21: They have now it has grown $200 sign-up bonus: regular $100 Verizon bill credit over 24 months (see below), plus a new $100 statement credit when you spend $500 within 30 days from account opening. Offer ends on January 4, 2022.

There is an inconspicuous mention of a sign-up bonus for the card, it looks like this will be the standard sign-up for the card:
New cardholders can receive up to $100 in wireless bill credits for 24 consecutive months when they use their new Verizon Visa card to pay their monthly Verizon bill.To receive the full $100 credit, you must pay a Verizon Wireless or Verizon Fios bill with either a Verizon Visa card or using Verizon Dollars to pay the total bill amount for the first 24 months of opening a credit card account. Update 9/3/20: People are getting the pre-launch bonus now and a report of $411.35. That means 2,431 people signed up and qualified for that bonus. Hats off to him mothman69
There is a special pre-launch sign-up bonus of up to $1,000 Verizon Dollars, based on a $1 million pool shared among all those who apply during pre-launch:
Sign up between June 22 at noon ET and June 25 at noon ET (before the card officially launches on June 26) and get a chance to get up to $1,000 in Verizon Dollars if you’re approved for the card.Verizon Dollars will be awarded within 2-3 billing cycles to the My Verizon account of any eligible account owner or manager who completes all of the following: (1) enrolls on the list during the promotional period, (2) applies for a Verizon Visa card through the link provided by the specified date, and (3) is approved for the ParticipantA trial (VerizonAp.$1,000,000 Verizon Dollars is available to be divided equally among all Approved Entrants, however in no event will any individual Approved Entrant be awarded more than $1,000 Verizon Dollars. The actual amount awarded to each approved entrant and the total amount awarded will depend on the number of approved entrants. For example, if there are 10,000 approved participants, then each will be awarded $100 Verizon and $1,000,000 Verizon will be awarded in total. Void where prohibited. We reserve the right to remove anyone from the Early Access promotion in the event of fraud or abuse of the promotion.
It’s entirely believable that you’ll only end up getting $10 or less if a lot of people sign up. I personally would think that if so many people sign up they will offer everyone $50 or something, but who knows.
Our verdict
I hate these kind of vague sign up bonuses as it is impossible to know how many people will sign up and what the reward will be. That said, if I were a contract customer with Verizon and wouldn’t bother 24/5, I would consider registering for the following reasons:
- Get 2% back every month on my Verizon bill (versus paying by bank account to get automatic payment discount if I didn’t have a Verizon card). Let’s say a monthly bill of $75, that means $1.50 a month or $18 a year. Also, if you use Verizon for wireless and internet, the monthly bills can add up and the 2% becomes more significant.
- Some people use other credit cards for cell phone insurancebut if you’re using your bank to get the AutoPay discount anyway, this is a little incentive to sign up.
- Get $100 in Verizon Credits over 24 months, $4.17 per month.
Get up to $1000 signup bonus with no spending requirements. In order for the bonus to be $1000, this would mean signing up just 1000 customers (see above). In all likelihood, the bonus will be much less than that, but it is still possible that it will be a worthwhile amount.- The 4% gas and food categories will interest many people.
- No foreign transaction fee is a nice feature for a card with no annual fee.
- Two free TravelPasses per year which can be useful for international travelers.
- (It appears that some ‘device dollars’ are converted into non-expiring Verizon dollars, but I’m fuzzy on the details.)
I can see this card especially for someone who plans to stick with Verizon wireless/Fios for a long time or someone who values the 4% grocery category.
