Fine Press
- Bonus/Account Information: The checking offer is not available to existing Chase checking customers or those whose accounts have been closed within 90 days or closed with a negative balance within the last 3 years.
- You can only receive one new checking account bonus every two years from the last coupon registration date and only one bonus per account.
- Coupon is good for one time use.
- To claim the bonus: 1) Open a new Chase Total Checking account, subject to approval; AND 2) Make your direct deposit into the new checking account within 90 days of coupon registration.
- Your direct deposit must be an electronic deposit of your salary, pension, or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or government.
- Person-to-person payments (such as Zelle®) are not considered direct deposit. Micro-deposits do not qualify as direct deposit for the bonus.
- Micro-deposits are small deposits, usually less than $1, that are sent to your account to verify that it is the correct account;
- AND 3) Deposit a total of $5,000 or more in new money into the new checking account within 30 days of coupon registration.
- The new money cannot be funds held by you at Chase or its affiliates. On the 30th day, your new cash deposit amount will be determined as follows and you must keep it for 90 days from the coupon registration.
- If the new cash deposit amount falls below the threshold during the 90-day period, your offer amount may change or your checking account may no longer qualify for the offer:
- $450 Bonus Offer Amount Checking | New Money Deposit Amount $5,000-$9,999.99
- $600 Bonus Offer Amount Checking | New Money Deposit Amount $10,000-$14,999.99
- Checking the bonus offer amount $900 | New Cash Deposit amount $15,000 or more
- $450 Bonus Offer Amount Checking | New Money Deposit Amount $5,000-$9,999.99
- Once you have completed all the requirements, we will deposit the bonus into your new checking account within 15 days.
- To receive the bonus, the registered account must not be closed or restricted at the time of payment. Eligibility may be limited based on account ownership. The bonus is considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT (or Form 1042-S, if applicable).
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you must pay tax on them
Avoidance of fees
Monthly fees
The Chase Total Checking account comes with a $10-$12 monthly service fee, which is waived if any of the following are met:
- Have monthly direct deposits totaling $500 or more
- Maintain a minimum daily checking account balance of $1,500 or more
- Maintain an average daily balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of qualifying Chase checking, savings and other balances
New accounts will not be charged a monthly service fee for at least the first two statement periods.
Early account termination fee
There used to be a six month period where you would lose the bonus if you quit, but sometime in 2022 (?) they removed that clause and so now it’s safe to quit after getting your bonus paid.
Our verdict
So there are currently two more Chase deposit account bonuses:
- $400 checking deposit, requires $1000 direct deposit but no other deposit. It can also be opened through a referral
- $900 Check and Save Bonus. This requires a direct deposit and $15,000 in the Chase savings account for 90 days.
This checking bonus seems better than the $900 checking and savings bonus since you only need to open one account instead of two and the deposit amount and holding period ($15,000 and 90 days) is the same. Chase Savings earns just 0.01% APY, so there’s no benefit, and if you have the funds in your checking account, you can just keep them fee-free. This also opens up the possibility of being able to receive a savings bonus in the future as well.
Let me know if I’m missing something. It will be added to our list best bank account bonuses.
